Saving Winter

The first walk in the snow is a yearly ritual for many Canadians. For me it marks the end of a season, swapping cycling shoes for ski boots, and brings back memories of sliding for hours after school until supper.

Last night we watched An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore’s excellent documentary on the incontestable fact of global warming. I had been avoiding it for a while because I did not want to get too depressed. I found that the film was uplifting, even with its extremely serious message, because we can do something about global warming – now. Please watch this film.

I also purchased the book World Changing, and look forward to reading about and implementing better ways of living with our only planet. Personally, I want our children to continue to enjoy many more Winters, but we are in grave danger of severe climate change. Now is the time to act and we intend to do our part.

  1. Yes, climate is definitively changing. I live in Germany close to the Alps and I can remember the area as a winter sports resort for many years. There is spring temperature at the moment, they say it’s the warmest December since 1901. The time lag between this kind of records is getting closer more and more, but we won’t spoil the party of driving big suv’s on the autobahn. Cheerio!

  2. Wow! Harold! We did the exact same thing here in Montreal. Me and my wife rented the movie yesterday and watched.

My wife is quite green, and I always have been a voluntary simplicity kind of guy, so it seems like we do not pollute too much so it will be a bit difficult for us to reduce our emissions.

  3. Canadians still create too much pollution and carbon dioxide, so we can reduce a lot more. We can also work on technologies and methods to help others. We are by no means perfect, and the oil sands are creating more gases every day.
