I just presented at the first annual European PKM Summit, with a formal presentation yesterday and a casual chat today. Next year’s summit is scheduled for 14/15 March 2025. Some of what I covered is posted at 20 years of PKM. I mentioned several projects and resources which are available on this site.
What Domino’s Pizza learned about implementing PKM practices — Solo change agents set you free
Changing the corporate university at Cigna 2010/2011 — working smarter case study
Reforming the government of Finland’s operating practices particularly moving toward a more collaborative culture — toward distributed governance
How can an organization like Cooperative Extension at UNL adapt to the network era? — networked knowing
How do you improve collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and sensemaking in a globally distributed company [Citi] with over 200,000 employees? — working smarter 2020
The continuous changing nature of professional development to keep up with new demands for knowledge workers — PKM Workshop
There were many questions on how PKM connects with organizational knowledge sharing. I explained that team collaboration requires the transparent sharing of knowledge — using enterprise social networks and other technologies — so that everyone on a team knows what is going on and why. Decisions, and why they were made, are shared. New processes and methods are co-developed to create emergent practices. This method of work has to be supported by management by enabling — innovative and contextual methods, the self-selection of the most appropriate tools and work conditions, and willing cooperation between workers. More at — adding value with teams.
We also discussed communities of practice and I mentioned how our coffee club, consisting of about 50 people from several continents, was focused on workplace learning and was a safe place to test out new ideas and make new connections, one of which resulted in a new business — Asynco.
Hi, Harold,
I have been catching up with some of the highlights of the PKM Summit over in Mastodon and it looks like it was a fab event altogether. I am not too sure whether the sessions were recorded and would be made available at a later time, but I am hoping your session did get recorded. Do you know whether it was?
I very much appreciate the shout-out about asynco.org. Indeed, it was through your coffee club community both Cat Barnard and myself got together over the years and eventually decided to co-found it. It’s now been a bit over 4 months and I can certainly confirm it’s been the best professional decision *ever*
Thanks much for making it possible and for being part of it as well! Both Cat & yours truly appreciate it very much
Hi Luis! We tried to record as much as possible.. In the upcoming weeks you can find everything on https://pkmsummit.com
Maybe you can join us next year?
Hi, Martijn,
Thanks a lot for the feedback! I will keep an eye on https://pkmsummit.com/ in the coming weeks to check out some of the recordings and just to let you know as well I have already noted down next year’s edition in my calendar. Hope I can make it
Thanks again for the heads-up!
Thank you so much Harold for joining the event this weekend! People really appreciated the body of experience you brought and deepening the underlying concepts. I think in the tools for thought space that is often missing.
And hi Luis, good to see you here in the comments. The sessions with Harold were recorded (with Riverside I think), as were most others. I don’t know what / where the organisers will publish though. I’ll ask. (I was involved in bringing in speakers for the event)
Hi, Ton,
Many thanks for the heads-up and for the additional feedback! I will be on the watch and see if the recordings become available eventually at some point. It looks like it was a fab event and would want to dip my toes into some of the sessions.
Top-notch set of speakers, Ton! Well done!
See you soon on Mastodon and the fediverse! (I am on the brink of ending the break I took in there a while ago, as things have started to settle down a bit and can spend more time in there … Chat more soon!)
