Most socially-shared

“I don’t want to belong to any club that will accept people like me as a member.”Groucho Marx

I usually ignore “best of” lists that tell us the “Top XX” people in a field. Too often there is no methodology given, and it’s either a popularity contest or just a marketing scheme. I was surprised when I got a note that someone saw my name on a list that actually used data. In this case it was the Center for Management and Organization Effectiveness:

We wanted to compile a list of the best Learning & Development blogs.

So, we scoured the web and put together a list of blogs we felt fit into this category.

We then took each blog’s posts from January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2013 and ran them through a tool that pulls the total social-shares for any web page .

Probably the most interesting question these data reveal is why are blog posts by Jane Hart and myself shared significantly more than others? I know many of the other bloggers listed and they write very good and insightful posts. I don’t think that Jane and I write more frequently than the other bloggers, but this could be a factor. Anyway, it has given me a question to ponder, though it will not change my habits of over a decade. I will continue to write first for myself, but share as openly as possible, so that serendipitous learning can emerge.

I would also like to thank the thousands of people who share my half-baked thoughts from my outboard brain.

Harold, It is interesting to ponder what roles we play in a wider ecosystem of colleagues, industry peers and clients. I suspect that’s a key to answering the question you posed.

Speaking for myself, I come to your site regularly because you post frequently and consistently (that’s part of it). But more importantly, for me you act like a value adding integration hub or boundary spanner between the L&D/OD domain I began my career in to the fast paced visceral nature of the wider business world and society at large ( which I and everyone else is seeking to make sense of and earn a keep in).
